PSA for Summer Reading

The Public Service Announcement for this year's theme, Fizz, Boom, Read!, is available and ready for use. You have to download it from the CSLP website, http://www.cslpreads.org/, and go to "Proprietary Downloads."

I have forwarded a download to our local stations. You can view it here.

"Leap Into Reading" Program Deadline Approaching

The Edvest College Savings Plan and Green Bay Packers are excited to announce our continuing partnership with Wisconsin Public Libraries to promote your summer reading activities through free promotional materials, advertising, and an Edvest scholarship drawing with great Packers prizes! Leap into Reading is summarized briefly below and please also review the attached program summary for full details.

How it works:

1.       Register your library branch location to participate at www.Edvest.com/reading by May 17th.
2.       Your library branch will receive a Leap into Reading promotional kit of bookmarks, entry cards, and signage.
3.       On or before June 6th, place your signage in an entry area or near your children’s area. Include bookmarks and entry forms in summer library program materials and keep available at checkout desk.
4.       Enjoy the program – your library could be a winner of Green Bay Packers prizes and/or $500!
Libraries Can Win:

First 200 library branches that sign up receive “Return to Titletown” a hard cover book commemorating the Green Bay Packers 2010 season and Superbowl Championship. Add it to your collection, use it as a fundraiser, or reward a hard-working employee – it’s up to you. For shipping details, please see the attached program summary. Book description available here: goodreads.com/book/show/10550969-return-to-titletown

Library branches that sign up will also be placed in a drawing the week of June 9th to receive Green Bay Packers Family Night Tickets and autographed footballs. Winners will be selected from each of the 17 public library systems.  Last year, 53 libraries received tickets and/or footballs and held raffles, contests, or rewarded team members.

Libraries who participate also are eligible to win a $500 cash prize if one of the Leap into Reading youth winners is a patron your library.  Last year, 16 libraries who registered had Leap into Reading winners and each received the $500 cash prize.  Four libraries with Leap into Reading winners had not registered so were ineligible for the prize.

Register by May 17

Register your library branch location and select your promotional kit size by May 17. Also, if you are interested in hosting the Green Bay Packer Player reading event, please notify me by May 17 (see attached summary for details). Registration will close on June 6. We are offering small, medium and large promotional kit sizes – see promotion summary attached to this email for details. Materials are free of charge and you may re-order first come, first served until supplies are gone.

Presenter:  Penny Peck

 Date:  Wednesday, May 21, 2014

Start Time:   2PM Central

  • Do you feel like you always recommend the same old books when a child asks for a “good book to read?”
  • Tired of recommending the same books because you can’t think of anything new to recommend to a child visiting the library?
  • Looking for suggestion to augment the Common Core?
Discover the new books that you can offer to children who use your library! Hear about books published in Fall 2013 and Spring 2014 that will be popular with children ages 0-12. These include board books, picture books, easy readers, transitional fiction, genre fiction for middle grades, graphic novels, poetry, nonfiction, and more!

At the end of this one-hour webinar, participants will:

  • Learn about new multicultural books to meet the needs of all children
  • Be able to name some new books relating to the Common Core, including informational picture books perfect for Preschool through grade 3
  • Be able to identify “read-alikes” – other books you can recommend to children after you find out their favorite book
  • Know books that will grab the attention of reluctant readers, including the newest graphic novels for kids, nonfiction, and pop culture titles, and a list of very short novels for tweens
  • Take away a list of helpful websites to use when doing readers’ advisory, and sites that will help you keep up-to-date on the latest children’s books
This webinar will be of interest to all library staff or volunteer who serves children ages 0-12, in either public or school libraries.
